A case of rape of a female folk singer by a van rickshaw driver in Kolkata has come to light. On Friday, the police gave information about this. The woman had filed a rape case at Ultadanga police station on Friday, a police officer said. Acting on the basis of the complaint of the woman, the accused has been arrested.
The incident took place on the afternoon of July 12, when the victim, a resident of South, was passing by to buy some household items, a police officer said. At the same time due to rain she stopped under a shed. Then the accused came from behind and grabbed her and took the woman to a nearby enclosure and committed the incident of raping her.
The police officer further said that after committing the rape incident, the accused snatched the gold ornaments worn by the female folk singer and all her belongings and fled. He told that the woman was ill for two days and was at home after the incident. On Friday, she along with her relative reached Ultadanga police station to file a complaint.
The police officer says that the rape has been confirmed during the medical examination. A case of rape along with theft case has also been registered against the accused and action has been initiated in the matter.
