The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a response from the UP government in a Jauhar University case. The court has asked whether its order was complied with or not.
The apex court had restrained SP leader Azam Khan on the condition of attachment of land adjacent to his university for bail. This land was confiscated under the Enemy Property Act. Azam Khan has complained that even after the stay order of the court, due to non-removal of fencing from this land in Rampur, the functioning of the university is not being done properly.
A bench of Supreme Court Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice JB Pardiwala has directed the UP government to file its reply by July 19. With this, further hearing of the matter was fixed on July 22.
Earlier, on May 27, the vacation bench of the apex court had stayed the condition of the Allahabad High Court. As a condition of bail of Azam Khan, the High Court had directed the District Collector of Rampur to take possession of the land adjoining the Jauhar University campus to the government.
