Refrain From Making Allegations Without Ascertaining Facts, Birla To Parties On Bulletin Controversy

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has given a big statement on Friday amid political controversy over the parliamentary bulletin regarding dharna and protest in the Parliament House complex. He said on Friday that political parties should first check the facts. Only then should they make allegations. The Speaker urged the political parties to refrain from leveling allegations without investigation. During this, he also emphasized that such circulars are being issued for many years.

Significantly, in a circular issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, it was said that “Members may not use the premises of Parliament House for the purpose of holding any demonstration, dharna, strike, fasting or any religious function.” This circular issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat was condemned by various political parties and some allegations were also leveled.

Regarding these allegations of political parties, the Speaker requested all the political parties to neither make political allegations nor reply to the allegations on any subject in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha without ascertaining the facts. He said that it (members) for such circulars) is a process and this process is going on since 2009.

It is worth noting that earlier on Thursday, he had also given a statement on the allegations of the opposition regarding unparliamentary words. He had said that the words have not been banned, only declared unparliamentary. He had also said that the ban has not been imposed through the government, this decision has been taken under the process.
