Matter of disturbance in custom duty came to light in the raid

It has been told by the Union Finance Ministry that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had conducted investigations and raids at the offices of Oppo and the houses of some top level managers. During the investigation, it has been found that Oppo India has not disclosed the import of certain items used in the production of mobiles. Due to this, the company has got custom duty exemption of about Rs 2981 crore. During the investigation, some of the top managers of the company and India based suppliers have been questioned.

In the information given by the Ministry of Finance, it has also been told that Oppo India has also paid many multinational companies in the name of royalty. These companies also include some companies based in China. The details of the products for which the company has paid royalty and license fees have not been disclosed in the transaction value at the time of importing those goods.

Oppo India has violated the provisions of section 14 of the Customs Act 1962

These irregularities on the part of the company are violative of the provisions of section 14 of the Customs Act, 1962. Oppo India has not paid custom duty of about Rs 1408 crore in this way. Along with this, the company has also made a voluntary deposit of Rs 450 crore.

On behalf of the Finance Ministry, it has been said that Oppo India has been shown a total of Rs 4389 crore in the custom duty malpractice case. In this notice, it has been said to impose fine on Oppo India, its senior managers of India and Oppo China under the Custom Act 1962.
