Following this raid, DRE (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) has unearthed customs evasion of Rs 4389 crore on behalf of Oppo India. The investigation has also revealed that Oppo India has paid ‘royalty’ and ‘license fee’ to several multinational companies in lieu of use of proprietary technology / brand / IPR license etc., many of these companies are also in China. are located.

Now in the investigation of DRI, a case of evasion of custom duty of Rs 4389 crore has also come to light on the Oppo company. DRI, after raiding the company’s premises, has said that Oppo Mobile India Pvt Ltd has evaded custom duty on a large scale.
Let us tell you that Oppo India Company does the business of manufacturing, assembling, wholesale trading, mobile handset distribution and accessories of mobile phones in the Indian market. This company is a subsidiary of China’s Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunication Corporation Limited. Oppo India products also include popular mobile phone brands Oppo, OnePlus and Realme in India.
Matter of disturbance in custom duty came to light in the raid
It has been told by the Union Finance Ministry that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had conducted investigations and raids at the offices of Oppo and the houses of some top level managers. During the investigation, it has been found that Oppo India has not disclosed the import of certain items used in the production of mobiles. Due to this, the company has got custom duty exemption of about Rs 2981 crore. During the investigation, some of the top managers of the company and India based suppliers have been questioned.
In the information given by the Ministry of Finance, it has also been told that Oppo India has also paid many multinational companies in the name of royalty. These companies also include some companies based in China. The details of the products for which the company has paid royalty and license fees have not been disclosed in the transaction value at the time of importing those goods.
Oppo India has violated the provisions of section 14 of the Customs Act 1962
These malpractices on the part of the company are violative of the provisions of section 14 of the Customs Act, 1962. Oppo India has not paid custom duty of about Rs 1408 crore in this way. Along with this, the company has also made a voluntary deposit of Rs 450 crore.
On behalf of the Finance Ministry, it has been said that Oppo India has been shown a total of Rs 4389 crore in the custom duty malpractice case. In this notice, it has been said to impose fine on Oppo India, its senior managers of India and Oppo China under the Custom Act 1962.
Income Tax Department raided the premises of the pharma company
