Nikon is now planning to wind down the single lens reflex (SLR) camera business. According to the report, Nikon is now going to focus its full attention on the mirrorless camera. It is being said that the company has taken this decision after the collision with the smartphone’s camera.

For your information, let us tell you that Nikon is the world’s second largest SLR camera manufacturer after Canon. In the year 2021, the company had sold 400,000 DSLR units, despite this the company is now getting out of the DSLR market.

According to a report by Nikkei Asia, Nikon has decided to exit the DSLR market. Nikon hasn’t launched any SLR cameras since 2022. The company launched Nikon D6 in 2020 as the last SLR product.

The company has also stopped making digital cameras. For the first time, global shipments of mirrorless cameras have surpassed SLR cameras with 2.93 million and 2.37 million units, respectively, the report said. It is to be noted here that the sales of DSLR cameras stood at 11.67 million in 2017, down to 5.34 million by 2021, while mirrorless cameras grew significantly in the same period.

Last year Nikon launched its mirrorless camera Nikon Z9 in India which is 10 times faster than the SLR camera. There is also news that Canon is also preparing to stop production of SLR cameras in the next few years.
