Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on Friday condemned the decision to ban protests and dharna in the Parliament House complex, terming it an attack on the democratic rights of elected representatives.
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has said in a circular that demonstrations, dharnas or religious functions cannot be held in the premises of Parliament House. The move has angered the opposition, but officials have termed the issuance of such notices as a “routine” matter ahead of the Parliament session.
Addressing a press conference here, Pawar said, “Any attack on democratic rights will not be tolerated.” The Rajya Sabha MP said that the opposition parties are meeting in New Delhi on Saturday to discuss the issue and take a collective stand.
The monsoon session of Parliament is starting from July 18. Pawar said that when the voices of the MPs are not heard inside the Parliament, they stage a walkout and hold a peaceful protest at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the premises. “That right is being denied, such action will not be tolerated,” the former Union minister said.
On Shiv Sena’s support for NDA’s candidate Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election, Pawar said, “Every political party has the right to take its own decisions.” Pawar said the continuation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance for contesting elections in future has not been discussed in his party.
The NCP patriarch said, “It is my personal view that Mahavikas Aghadi should contest the elections together. He said that fifteen days have passed since the formation of the new government in Maharashtra, but now only two people are running the administration.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took oath on June 30. It is not known why there was a delay in cabinet formation, Pawar said. They are doing only one thing now, that is nullifying the decisions of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. This is not a good example.
The former Union Minister said that the country’s economy is in crisis and appropriate steps should be taken to revive it. When asked about the depreciating value of the rupee against the US dollar, he said that India’s economic condition is not looking good.
Pawar further said, the country’s economy is moving towards crisis. It is the responsibility of the government of that time to see how to keep the economy in good shape and take appropriate steps for its development. We will raise this issue in Parliament.
When asked about the political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka and the situation along the Line of Actual Control with China, Pawar said, “These are very sensitive issues. He said that China has violated the LAC to some extent and some of our sides have In this situation the government has not yet told the country what stand it has taken on this issue. I think this is a very important matter and there should be no politics on this issue.. Everyone should be one.”
