As soon as he took over the throne of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has started putting a hold on the decisions of the Uddhav Thackeray government. Shinde has stayed Uddhav’s decision, under which the names of Aurangabad and Osmanabad were changed. Actually, Uddhav Thackeray in his last cabinet meeting had decided to rename Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv. Apart from this, the name of Mumbai International Airport was also announced to be DB Patil.

On the other hand, Eknath Shinde has said that the decision to change the names of both the cities was taken in haste. In such a situation, the government will consider it afresh and will put this proposal in front of the cabinet.

Governor and Fadnavis had raised objection

Uddhav Thackeray, who was in trouble, had called a cabinet meeting on 29 July before the government fell. In this meeting it was decided to rename Osmanabad and Aurangabad. On this, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari wrote a letter to the Uddhav government, saying that the government is in a minority, populist decisions cannot be taken at such a time. After this, Devendra Fadnavis also objected to this decision. He said that the government had taken this decision in haste. This decision was taken by Uddhav Thackeray after the decision of majority test, which is wrong.

AIMIM had also raised objection

AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel had also objected to the renaming of Aurangabad. He had also warned of street protests against this decision. Imtiaz Jalil had said that Aurangabad has a historical identity in the whole world.
