The Shinde government of Maharashtra decided to rename Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv. Apart from this, the cabinet approved the decision to rename Navi Mumbai airport as DB Patil. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, Uddhav Thackeray had changed the names of these cities in his last cabinet meeting. However, his decision was illegal. Hence, once again both the city and the airport have been renamed.
Actually, at the time of political crisis, former CM Uddhav Thackeray had decided to change the names of these cities in his last cabinet meeting. However, after his decision, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari wrote a letter to Uddhav Thackeray saying that the government is in a minority, so he cannot take populist decisions.
The decision was taken after the decision of majority test
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state Devendra Fadnavis had also objected to the decision of the Uddhav government. He had said, the decision to rename both the cities is illegal as the decision to test the majority of the government has been taken.
