In Karnataka’s Bagalkot district, a woman from a communal violence victim’s family has refused to accept compensation money at the hands of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and expressed her anger by throwing it at his vehicle. Siddaramaiah was on his way to meet those injured in the violence.
The woman later told the media, “What we want is justice, no compensation or sympathy. Whatever happened to me, should not happen to anyone else. I would like to meet Siddaramaiah or anyone who comes to seek votes.” Day cannot beg for relief.
50 thousand rupees compensation given to each injured person
According to sources, Congress leader Siddaramaiah gave fifty thousand rupees as compensation to each injured person. This angered a Hindu as well as a Muslim family. He demanded justice.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah was returning after handing over the amount to the injured youth when the youth’s sister vented her anger. She told Siddaramaiah that she wanted justice and not money. Then the Congress leader tried to pacify him and left from there.
‘Hindus and Muslims want justice’
The woman Najma tried to chase Siddaramaiah’s car and threw a bundle of money at the convoy, a video of which is going viral. Later talking to reporters, he said that he wants justice and not money. Hindus and Muslims want justice. We have to live like a mother’s children. The way we are suffering, no one should suffer. Najma said that immediately after the violence in the district’s Kerur town, no leader came to meet her.
What did Siddaramaiah say on the incident?
Reacting to the incident, Siddaramaiah said that someone must have provoked the woman. He also claimed that the family finally accepted the money. The money has been given to them. This (compensation amount) was given in the form of humanity. Not that it will be enough to ease all the difficulties they are facing.
Siddaramaiah said – this question should be asked to the Chief Minister and BJP leaders
Siddaramaiah said, “We public representatives are here to ensure that no such incident happens. People should ask the chief minister and BJP leaders. You should ask this question (demanding justice) to them.
BJP retaliated
The BJP hit back at Siddaramaiah, saying the Congress veteran’s appeasement angered the woman who threw money at his vehicle. In a tweet, the party said, Siddaramaiah has used the donations collected under the campaign to show his pride.
