Kerala High Court allows minor rape victim to have abortion in 24th week. However, during this time it directed to constitute a medical team to conduct the process.
Justice VG Arun, while hearing the petition of a 15-year-old teenager, said that if the child survives at birth, the hospital will ensure that the child gets the best medical treatment. The court also said that if the petitioner is not ready to take the responsibility of the child, then the state and agencies will take the responsibility.
It will also provide medical assistance and facilities to the child. Hearing the plight of the girl, the judge said, “We are in favor of allowing the minor victim to undergo an abortion, going beyond what is provided in the law, in the face of some difficult questions in her life.”
