Responding to reports suggesting the US consulate to stop the Russian ship off the Mumbai coast, the State Department clarified on Thursday that the US embassy has been asked to follow the correct route for any diplomatic communication.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Such reports have come to our notice. Any such diplomatic communication should be between the Ministry of External Affairs and the mission in Delhi. America has been informed about this.

Bagchi also said that the position has already been clarified about our relationship with Russia in economic and trade issues. According to media reports, the US Consulate in Mumbai had suggested to the Mumbai Port Authority to stop Russian ships. He said that the US has imposed sanctions on Russia, due to which Russian ships should not be allowed to come to the port.
