The Defense Ministry has constituted an Apex Committee to conduct a ‘Performance and Efficiency’ audit of capital procurement, logistics, stock and asset maintenance involving the Armed Forces. The committee, headed by the Defense Secretary, will advise Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on measures for overall improvement in strengthening the internal oversight and risk management framework in various aspects of the functioning of the Ministry.

The committee includes deputy chiefs of the three wings of the army, secretary defense (finance), chief of the Integrated Staff Committee, Controller General of Defense Accounts and Director General (Procurement) and other senior officials of the ministry, representatives of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The committee’s formation comes amid efforts to streamline military procurement processes and focus on enhancing the country’s overall war preparedness.

The Ministry of Defense has set up an institutional mechanism of an Apex Committee under the Chairmanship of Defense Secretary to conduct performance and efficiency audits in various aspects of its activities, the ministry said in a statement. The ministry said, such audit is expected to provide valuable inputs to the top management of the ministry if there are any gaps in the execution of projects and also suggestions regarding systemic improvements in internal controls, soundness of financial procedures, identification of risk factors.
