Confident Indian men’s hockey vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh is hopeful that the team will be able to stop Australia’s golden campaign in the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Hockey became part of the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and the Australian team has since won all six gold medals in the men’s competition. Harmanpreet expressed confidence that her team will be able to turn the dice in Birmingham. He said- The team is consistently performing well. We also played well in the FIH Hockey Pro League and so there is no lack of confidence in the team. We would like to keep winning matches. We will definitely try our level best to win gold in Commonwealth Games 2022. “Our preparations for the Commonwealth Games are going very well. We are working on certain aspects of our game during the practice sessions. Our focus is on learning from mistakes made in the FIH Hockey Pro League. The drag-flicker said that the successful conversion of the ball to the goal post and the flaw in the defense has been a matter of concern for India but the team is continuously working on both these aspects. He said, ‘We are playing practice matches continuously. The main team is playing against a team of other players in the camp. These practice matches have helped us improve our coordination on the field. It is also giving us an opportunity to test our strategies.
